From the diary of XIV Rendez-vous du Carnet de Voyage in Clermont-Ferrand: 3rd day (final day)
The Drifter, Intro for Rendez Vous du Carnet de Voyage 2013, Clermont Ferrand
Many many special moments in this last day of Rendez-vous du Carnet de Voyage.
Today a lot of people come to my stand again and again for some dedication on my carnets, and I was so happy to see them and to feel my things so appreciated and valuated. Very very positive feedback from these day of funny and at the same time so beautiful work of painting melted with traveling and knowing people…
There’s a lot of things that I might say, but many of them are so fresh as impressions, deep as feelings and private as intimate that I may need some time to thinking about, assimilate, and then try an expression.
Many many thanks to all friends who supported me for the setting-up of material and printed edition of my works, especially the brother Marco Pallini Palmar for the printed edition of Portugal – Carnet de Voyage, and Gabriele Genini for his precious suggestions and support in printed edition of Japanese Carnet on the 9 Dragons, Lisboa em Azulejos and The Drifter.
About the latter, a special and immense thanks to Taylor Steele for letting me paintng over his stupend documentary – surf-movie “The Drifter”, and to Rob Machado to be “The Drifter”.
At least but not the last, many many thanks to IFAV association for their help, comprehension and patience, and support in these 3 days of Rendez-vous: I really have seen the huge work for all the people working in IFAV to organize, manage and finalize a very large number of painters and carnetists. A very very huge and well-done work for coordinate everything and everyone, making each one of us feeling just home far away from home… mercì a vous amis, à bientot!!!
I just stop this diary of board with a shortclip I prepared for the Rendez-vous, to be played in-loop at my stand, introducing the very experimental work I’ve did about “The Drifter” – Indo and Bali.

From the diary of XIV Rendez-vous du Carnet de Voyage in Clermont-Ferrand: 2nd day
Chinese seal in the red clay
Second day of Rendez-vous du Carnet de Voyage is just passed.
This morning when I get out of the Hotel to make a good breakfast in the petit “Pâtisserie – boulangerie” just a few steps from here, the cold cold wind and rain of yesterday disappeared and it was a nice sun-rising.
Quickly setting up again my stand (n.118) with some change in disposition of my stuff, I start to meet people coming to Polydrome to watch the Rendez-vous, and I’m always so surprise from the high interest and the numerous question visitors use to ask about my work as carnetist.
Many many questions, many many differences among questions, but while hours passing by, and my eyes crossing with other people’s eyes, in my mind I start thinking about beauty of diversity…
I was impressed once again from the beauty in every single expression of the eyes of the guests of my stand coming to me and looking at my paintings…
I feel portait every second more and more the best best way to express all impressions I have from meeting people…; if I have time, I wish I can portrait everybody come in my life!!!
Day passed quickly between dedications, free-hand watercolors and visiting some friends’ stands.
I moreover found some really really strong inspiration for further works, buying some precious carnet from artist and the Rendez-vous, planning and dreaming some new project at every step.
Evening come quickly with the soft hug of a group dinner in the “Hotel de Puyis” in Clermont.
A white long cloth was disposed over each table, thus in a blink of an eye folks just start to paint on it, and I do to.
It was 2 says that cutting some really few few free-time minutes after lunch to gather among stands, I was looking for the Spanish friend Luis Padron, and finally we met just at the table during the dinner,,, and this is one of the gift that I learn to appreciate, as to have the stand of the Russian friend Ivan Krasnobaev just in front of me.
Backing to my Hotel, we took a walk with the friend Ivan and speak really a lot about anything: religion, recent history of our country, politics, art, how’s living in our cities…
Another of the gift which I learn they are the most important for my life.
It’s now time to take a rest and wait ’till tomorrow morning coming.

From the diary of XIV Rendez-vous du Carnet de Voyage in Clermont-Ferrand: 1st day
After being in Clermont from yesterday afternoon, setting up my stand with some Azulejos-style background and putting all things in the right place, we just went out for a good dinner taking a bit of rest, waiting for the 1st day of Rendez-vous…
Setting-up of my stand in Clermont
1st day of Rendez-vous come, with a lot of happy meeting of old friends (someone I ain’t seen from 2011) and some-others I first meet this year.
Crowd of pupils come to my stand for a Dragon painting and I’m lucky ’cause pupils allways give me a good charge in doin’ things.
This year I was selected to attend to the Rendez-vous with my carnet de voyage on Portugal, and my carnet d’etude about “The Drifter”, a surf movie by Taylor Steele focused on Rob Machado drifting in Indonesia and Bali.
I was so so happy to have met some pupils, young and not so young people who came from Portugal or Brasil, thus we can speak a little of Portuguese here in Clermont.
Speaking about Portugal with a friend just met with Portuguese origin: I wish I can speak Portuguese better: a minha patria è a lingua portuguesa!

The Drifter – carnet d’etude
First day just passed by, but I had so much positive feed-backs and so many inspirations and ideas for further works and for developing my way of painting and making Carnet de Voyage. I’ll try to apply such new inspiration into the work I’m doing about Hawai’i, which is the set of carnets – maybe the most important work I’ve never did in my all life – which I’m going to proceed in painting when I’ll be back from Clermont.
Very happy to meet Sighanda, Federcio Gemma, Dario Grillotti and his girlfriend, Elena and Claudio Monaco once again in this so important an happy event. So so glad to have 1st met Carola Zerbone with her so beautiful work on Inde du Nord.
